American Association of University Professors (AAUP) – history and positions in regards to faculty and institutions

From: Brad Jirka,

Comment: I thought it might be useful for faculty to review the history and positions of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) as regards our profession and collective bargaining. The AAUP, in their 100 year history, have somewhat defined the ideals, aspirations, and relationships of professors and their institutions including such elemental concerns as their “Statements” on Academic Freedom, Tenure, and Responsibility, portions of which are oft included in faculty handbooks and contracts (including those at MCAD). The AAUP also engages in collective bargaining through their CBC programs.
